Outlook & Experience
I have spent 30 years working in national museums with a STEM remit, specialising in science education, science communication and public engagement. My expertise in these areas is very well developed.
My passion for STEM is extremely eclectic, ranging from astronomy to zoology. My enthusiasm and expertise extends to the history, heritage and material culture of science.
I was a senior manager for 15 years, managing and leading large teams, and delivering strategic growth during periods of severe economic hardship.
I have a very commercial outlook, with a strong ethical commitment to social enterprise.
My process is collegiate, analytical, reflective and iterative - driven by design thinking.
I have a deep understanding of audiences.
My experience covers STEM engagement in a huge range of formats, physical and digital, from within commercial and engagement centred divisions.
I have managed complex teams of up to three dozen people delivering facilitated STEM outputs reaching 240 thousand learners a year, recovering all costs.
I have planned and led projects with budgets of £10k to £1m, ranging from largely creative temporary exhibitions to E&M heavy facilities projects.
I have developed and implemented strategies that strike a balance between institutional ambition, social purpose, and financial pragmatism.
I have consistently delivered substantial, sustained increases in visits, income, and staffing.
My knowledge of STEM engagement as it applies to astronomy is extremely well developed.
